My mother and I rented this apartment in June 2015:

We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay here. Sergio is a gracious and helpful host. He met us at the apartment on arrival to personally welcome us to Florence, offered advice on restaurants and sights, and checked in with us throughout our stay to ensure all was well.
The apartment is away from the crowds but within easy walking distance of all the sights (or hop on a bus - there's a stop just across the street.) Close by are excellent neighbourhood restaurants (such as Trattoria Sabatino and Birreria Il Bovaro) and the BEST gelato in the city, imho (Gelateria La Carraia).
The bed is incredibly comfortable with excellent pillows (not always the case in rentals), so we slept very well. We didn't cook any meals, but the kitchenette seemed surprisingly well equipped, and was lovely and bright, with two big windows. Strong, reliable wifi connection. The AC unit kept the bedroom cool enough in the heat of the summer.
Possible downsides for some renters might be the lack of comfy chairs and the stairs:
- there is a table with 4 chairs in the kitchen/dining room, but no sofa or sitting area.
- as noted in the ad, the apartment is on the 3rd floor, no lift. Also, the apartment is strangely laid out: you enter into the kitchen/dining room - go up a short flight of stairs to the bedroom - then down a spiral staircase from the bedroom to the bathroom. (In other words, if you're sitting in the kitchen and need to pee, you need to go upstairs and then down on the other side!) We found the layout quirky...others might find it annoying.
We'd want to stay here again if returning to Florence.
