Vacation Rental Name: Mill Flat - Whichford Mill

This was the perfect rental for me: on the border of the northern Cotswolds in Warwickshire, pristine countryside, horses, cows, geese, chickens, golden wheat fields galore, all traversable on foot, bike or even horseback via indicated paths that crisscrossed endless fields. Heaven.

Mill Flat is on a meticulous farmstead with wandering livestock and a creek that runs right through the property. The owner couple lives on the grounds. Couldn't be more bucolic - if you've seen Lark Rise to Candleford you've seen the countryside surrounding Whichford Mill.

I rented the spacious studio with twin beds and even a bathtub. It had everything I wanted, including Wifi, which allowed me to stay in touch in an otherwise fairly remote location. There's a terrace just outside the door, so you can have breakfast or tea in the company of the fattest, whitest geese I've ever seen. Ray and Jill even did a load of laundry for me.

Easy to visit lots of wonderful towns from large to small, from Moreton-in-Marsh, to Chipping Camden, Stratford-on-Avon, and many more. But the tiny burgs that are a stone's throw from Mill Flat are charming and tranquil, and approachable.

There is also a larger structure available for rent, so it's good for a larger group too. There are even fresh eggs available for purchase from the owners.

Caveats: They need to furnish a detailed map to compare with your GPS directions as you approach: you can't have too many hints to arrive here. Cell phone reception is spotty, so the Wifi powered Skype came in particularly handy.

That said, I'd head back tomorrow for a month if I had the chance.
