Vacation Rental Name: Paris - Charming Three Bedroom Latin Quarter

The apartment was perfect. I was looking initially in the Marais (Paris) and was slightly worried about the location in the Latin Quarter but it was as good as I could have hoped for. The transport was easy, we used the 21 and 28 buses which stop outside the apartment, but also used the underground to get around the city. The buses in particular were easy to take the stroller on.

As we had a restless toddler we didn't eat out, the closest pizza shop across the road towards Luxembourg Gardens did really good takeaway. We shopped for food in rue mouffetard mainly and just heated it up at home and made salads. The bread and the goats cheeses were a revelation. The kitchen was small but well equipped and had a view into the rear courtyard. For us the little parks in the area with play equipment were handy, as well as of course, Jardin des Plantes and Luxembourg Gardens.

The apartment was very clean and easy to live in, it was obvious it was not just a rental but someone's much cared for home, it was set out in a way that was elegant and comfortable, with an understated taste. I really liked the plain good quality of the cotton textiles, and the way the apartment was decorated so that it was respectful to the building. The owner and her daughter very helpful and easy to deal with. The information in the apartment about the area was well considered.

We stayed for 2 weeks and didn't want to leave and would love to return again.

Vacation Rental Name: Rome - Via Veneto

When we first walked in to the apartment in Via Veneto we were struck by the airlessness. There was no air flow. All the windows were on one side opening onto a light-well, that was enclosed on all sides. Looking out you see nothing but the shuttered windows of other apartments and grey stained cement. To see any sky or ground you need to hang out of the window. I never saw any of the other windows open in the light well in the 5 days we were there and we only saw one person in the foyer so we assumed most of the building was vacant. It had a slightly creepy feel. I didn't like the small cage like lift, especially the way it opened so close to our apartment door.

The apartment was clean, the beds were ok, the linen was sparse but of ok quality and Rene the greeter was informative as was the information about the area. The location was fine. The furnishings were mediocre but acceptable. The air-conditioning was cool but loud and we could only get the television to operate in black and white. The power went off when I used the hairdryer and clothes dryer, I needed to call Rene to put it back on. The apartment had a lot of mosquitoes probably because of the lack of airflow and stagnant water at the bottom of the light well, we needed to wear repellant while we slept.

We rented this apartment because of the excellent reviews. Perhaps we were naive but we thought Italy Perfect just published the reviews as written. Now I realise they don't as they have refused to publish my review.
