Cities in England
London: "Swinging London" says it all. This is one of the best cities in Europe, full of art, history and fun.
Bath: The center of Georgian Bath is perfectly preserved. You will also find remains from the Roman settlement of Bath, 2,000 years ago. County - in Somerset
South England
Cornwall: Cornwall is the western-most region of England, stretching out from Devon into a narrow point of land surrounded on three sides by ocean. Lovely coastal villages, great hiking, good restaurants. Counties - Cornwall, Isles of Scilly
Devon: Devon, part of the West Country, has a beautiful coastline on both the north and south. It also has a spectacular moor, Dartmoor, in the southern part of the county. Counties - Devon
Dorset: Dorset is close to London (2 hr drive) and has a lovely, long coast stretching from Lyme Regis in the west to Bournemouth and Poole in the east. Counties - Dorset
Somerset & Wiltshire: Somerset has a moor (Exmoor) and a small bit of northern coastline, plus beautiful rural areas. Wiltshire is a flatter area, with the large Salisbury plain in the center. Counties - Somerset, Wiltshire, Bristol
Cotswolds & Glouchestershire: Two hours west of London, between Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon, the Cotswolds are full of beautiful stone villages with a variety of well-priced vacation rentals. Counties - Gloucestershire and parts of Oxfordshire
Oxford & Oxfordshire: From the Cotswolds on the western edge to the Chilterns on the eastern edge, including the university town of Oxford.Counties - Oxfordshire
South East: This is the sunny side of England, full of gardens, historic sites and beautiful rural areas. Counties - Hampshire, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Isle of Wight
Channel Islands: Not officially part of England, the Channel Islands are off the coast of Normandy France. The main islands are Guernsey and Jersey.
Central England
West Midlands: This beautiful area, part of the Heart of England, is most famous for its Shakespeare Country and waterway canals. Counties - Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Worcestershire
East Midlands: The area most popular with travelers is the Peak District, a mountainous national park in Derbyshire. Counties - Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland
East: The eastern part of England, north of London, with seaside areas, then flat rural areas, leading to the Thames Valley and other areas near London. Counties - Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire
North England
Cumbria and the Lake District: The Lake District, a National Park in the north-west of England, is a small area full of lakes, hills and valleys - great for exploring, walking and hiking. County - in Cumbria
Yorkshire and the Humber: Historic cities, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the dramatic North York Moors. Counties - North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Riding, South Yorkshire
North West: Northern England, from Manchester to the border with Scotland, and the Isle of Man (not including Cumbria and the Lake District). Counties - Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Isle of Man
North East: Hadrian's Wall, ancient castles, the Norman Cathedral in Durham, coastal walking and more. Counties - Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear
