In Normandy see Mont-St-Michel (historic abbey on an island so close to the coast that you can walk to it when the tide is out), the D-Day beach landing places from WWII, the Bayeux Tapestry (11th century tapestry showing William the Conqueror's invasion of England), and the famous city of Rouen. In Brittany see the 15th to 18th century Enclos Paroissiaux (parish closes), the prehistoric stone circles at Carnac and the famous city of Rennes.
