These regions make up the northern area of Italy, bordering on France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. The large city of Milan is in the center of Lombardy, Venice is in the Veneto and Trieste connects Italy with the former Eastern Europe. The Dolomites, part of the Alps in the Trentino Alto Adige region, has wonderful mountain towns with skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. There are interesting areas to explore in the Veneto, outside of Venice. Lake Como (in Lombardy) and the Piedmont have their own pages.
