3 weeks in March

Hi all: I have 3+ weeks to stay somewhere in Italy in March. In an ideal world it would be somewhere near/on the coast, walking distance to groceries and cafes, and a point for easy day trips that would be walking/hiking, exploring, etc. (will not have a car). Looking at Sorrento and Amalfi Coast, but open to really anything. Suggestions?
Thanks!

Welcome sdelek. Sorrento is a lovely choice. Aside from the town itself, Capri is a short boat ride away. I don't know if the ferry to Amalfi will be running when you're there, but it's only an hour and a half away by water. If the ferry is not running there is bus service. The Circumvesuviana train that runs to Sorrento from Naples makes a stop at Pompeii if that interests you too.

The weather can be a little raw around Sorrento in March and watched almost an entire passenger ferry get seasick on the rough waters transiting to Ischia at Easter time one year.

Since you will not be using the beaches or other seaside activities, might look further north to something like Rapallo which offers coastal walking trails to Santa Margharita Ligure and Portofino and rail access to Genoa and Cinque Terre. Would need to check the passenger ferry schedules to see if running at that time of year, but also can connect to the above towns and San Frutuoso by water. Rapallo itself offers some nice dining options and is a very walkable town for access to services. Will note that we're in Rapallo annually in July for the Montallegro Festival and love the town, but don't have experience with March weather there.
