BREAKING NEWS:
La Repubblica reports that Italian air carrier AIR ITALY (51% owned by Aga Khan, 49% by Qatar Airways) has filed for liquidation bankruptcy and will stop flying after February 25, 2020. Passengers holding tickets after this date will either be protected on other carriers or refunded in whole, according to the report.
The former MERIDIANA/ALISARDA had launched an impressive array of new flights last year to multiple cities in the United States from Milan MXP, using aircraft acquired by Qatar Airways. Previously, MERIDIANA had been flying to New York JFK from several Italian cities for quite a few years during the summer months. ALISARDA had been launched by Aga Khan in the early 1960s out of Olbia, Sardinia.
