Anyone have a good website for residences?

A lot of times Italians will rent a residence for a week or two or a month at a time. These are often in popular beach locations. I think in most cases they are like apartment buildings with furnished apartments that are rented only on a short term basis.

I think often they could be rented for less than a hotel. But I haven't found a good website that lists them.

Does anyone happen to know of a good website for these types of rental apartments?

Most of us on this forum rent vacation rentals by the week. In Italy these can be apartments in renovated buildings on a farm, or houses or apartments in towns. I have come across these residences in Beach locations that you mention, also called holiday villages. We stayed in one in southern Tuscany, near Porto Santo Stefano.

What area are you thinking of? If you look on an Agriturismo website you will find a lot of options like these. Google Italy Agriturismo. I used to have a good list of these websites but can't find it right now.

I have vacation rental resources for Italy listed here:

In each region, if you look under Farms you will find apartments in the countryside.

This is a holiday village in Liguria:

Hi Mimosa
Joe posted a very good list of options for Agriturismo accommodation, which can include residences / apartments

In general I tend to use agriturismo.it plus local tourist office site plus alisdair sawday plus a general web search for appartamento+turismo. A web search for residence should also pick out those set up with a reception desk & basic shared facilities, but not the usual hotel gubbins.

Then of course there is the recent boom in aggregator private apartment rentals and we've used a few Italian specialists but yet to use Air B&B

Finally, the major aggregators such as booking.com are now increasingly getting into this market to head off Air B&B at the pass. Sometimes they come up with a very good rate on residence style places, but far from always despite claimed reductions.

Thanks for all the links. I guess I should add that I will not have a car so I think most agriturismos are out for that reason.

I also have a very limited budget so basic apartments are fine. Not that I don't like luxury, but my budget doesn't, LOL.

I will keep looking and if I find anything interesting, I'll let you all know.

Have you traveled in Italy before? You can base yourself in an area with good transportation. For example, stay in Lucca and take the train to the Cinque Terre, Florence, Pisa, etc.

In terms of budget, we've often found apartments cheaper than hotels, for more space plus cooking & cleaning facilities. The downsides are the lack of 24x7 support staff, inclusive breakfast and sometimes facilities such as gyms or pools. I very begrudgingly agree to a hotel these days, though if ever we have a one night stay, then yes they are an option.

I agree the lack of a car should not be a problem - we've stayed south of Bologna, and on the edge of Ghemme without a car. The trick as Pauline mentions is to ensure good local buses (or trains) or be close enough to the town that you can walk in. There are some we've stayed at when we've had a car, that we could have managed without one.

Do you know roughly where you are likely to be, as we may be able to suggest apartments, or even help with travel info (forum travel genius GAC is especially amazing).

Ian

We've had good finds through AirBnB, and this site will be our first choice for accommodation in cities in future trips. The wide price range offered usually enables finding something that is suitable to any type of budget, plus you get a feeling of "home" for the length of the stay.

Hi Mimosa
I've seen Case vacanza come up on searches before, but never used them, so can't comment.

Ian
