Mark and I are looking [finally] to going to Greece in October and we will be traveling independently but because of his age/health we won't be doing the active hiking we might have in the past = but we love to visit historical and archaelogical places == we have been to Athens/Delphi/Hydra on earlier trips and it was suggested that Thessaloniki might be a place to go to = and airfare there isn't too crazy and it's possible. SO = what is there to see within relatively easy driving distance from there? Our basic MO is to arrive and relax a day or two then strike out to another locale and then return to fly out == but if staying in/near the city makes sense as a base for operations, not moving would be fine. The main thing is to have some interesting things to see and do in a place we have never seen before =I am assuming [but don't know] that we'd be safe in general and any needed facilities would be available. But it'd certainly be fascinating to see another part of Greece.
