Provence BONHEUR IN BONNIEUX

Our base for a week in the Luberon (Oct. 1-8, 2022) was the "village perché" of Bonnieux with its distinctive profile of two church steeples. In the Slow Europe Contest in 2019. I was able to select a ½ price week in Kathy Wood’s wonderful apartment in the village. We had visited the region 3 times previously, but not for more than a decade. We invited our younger son & our daughter-in-law along for the experience. Then Covid hit. Three years later we were able to claim our prize. Kathy Wood was more than understanding, as I had to cancel our booking at least twice.

There is an active daily village life in Bonnieux with several shops and services, a weekly market on Friday morning and a rather amazing number and variety of dining options. Bonnieux is an ideal location for touring the region and certainly an ideal rental is Kathy Wood’s apartment, “Bonheur in Bonnieux”, in the middle of it all. All the pics below are within a couple of minutes walk from the apartment.

Actually, it doesn’t feel like a rental. Rather, it’s like you are living in her home. And that’s because you are. Kathy and her family live there several months of the year. Highest recommendation! Details in the link below.

I just saw this post and it sparked my interest because we were in Bonnieux only a couple of weeks ago. Such a beautiful little town (as long as you have young legs ). We like to choose the smaller, less travelled towns and this fitted the bill well, still being within reach of rather gorgeous places like Roussillon, Lourmarin and Gordes (which we were actually not so keen on because of the bus loads and very touristy vibe even in mid May. One town I have never seen talked about here is Cotignac where we stayed last Autumn - a bit further to the east, but perfect for us that time because we were flying out of Nice. We loved it even more than Bonnieux and are looking for an excuse to return. I tend to search on maps for places that might be in the right place and then read about them seeing if they talk to my heart - i know that sounds a bit airy fairy but it’s how we found Uzes, and Cotignac, and Pezenas - oh and La Roche Guyon near Giverny. I have always wanted to visit Giverny but not to stay in amongst the tourist hype… La Roche Guyon is on the river about 10-15 mins away, with a great castle, a few shops, a dirth of restaurants but we had a good kitchen and French produce is so much fun to cook with… especially asparagus season.
