Budget hotels or B&Bs in Venice or Barcelona

One of our friends and her daughter are on a c from Barcelona to Venice this May into June. They are looking for reasonable reliable hotels for a few days at either or both ends. We always stay in apartments so don't have any suggestions. Does anyone have a suggestion in either place for them?

Hi BJ
Here are some recommendations for Barcelona. I am often passing through for a night or two and have stayed in quite a few budget places. The tough thing is on certain days it can still be expensive. They need to book SOON. Again, if they are going for 3+ days they might find an apartment is more reasonable.

This is my go-to if I can get a room, they book up fast.

Rooms are basic but quite. I love the staff. There is no breakfast but they have a coffee machine thingy and also a little fridge where you can put stuff.

I also love this hotel but rooms can vary wildly in price depending on what day of the week, etc.

They might find it easier to look on booking.com. They have a 3 night minimum on weekends I think.

Another alternative I can recommend is Erik Vogel Suites on Gran Via. I just checked in May and the rates do not seem too bad. http://www.ericvokel.com/hotel?id=barcelona-gran-via-suites
They have washing machines. I stayed here 5 nights in November.
They will walk and take the metro more from this location (hence the price.) But I walked to the sea from there in 25 minutes.

Hopefully you will get some additional recommendations here.

Forwarded this to her too. Thank you so much. I suggested she look at sloweurope and also at grapehops for future trips. Miss you!
