Camogli, Liguria - Apartment in detached house overlooking the sea (2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms)

This is to complement the reviews submitted by other customers. The property description was accurate and the photos representative.

We (2 persons) stayed for 2 weeks in June/July 2019 (we also stayed at another apartment in Camogli in 2017, see our Slow Europe review), and we enjoyed our stay in CamogIi again. Some of the following detail about Camogli duplicates that in the earlier review.

* APARTMENT - it was generally well-equipped, with ample linen supplies. The property was without air conditioning (which we're not very keen on, mainly for noise reasons), and was warm at times, even with controlled opening of windows. However, our stay coincided with an unusually warm period.

* APARTMENT LOCATION - it was situated overlooking the harbour and a 5-10 minute walk to the Camogli centre, where there was a supermarket, bread shop, newsagent, tourist office and other shops (on Via XX Settembre). The surrounding locality for the apartment was generally quiet, and we didn't encounter any problem with train noise. Previous occupiers have reported noise from the nearby harbour/boat-yard, but we didn't find it a concern.

* OWNER - We booked directly with the owner, Gianna, who also arranged our taxi transfers to and from Genoa airport, which worked well. She was helpful before the vacation, via e-mail, but doesn't live locally, and the local representative was Michaela, whom we could not contact directly (but was friendly and helpful when we met). We had two non-urgent queries during our stay: the first ascertained that there was no microwave oven (but the conventional oven worked fine); the second query, about the availability of an ironing board ('Iron & board' in the HomeAway inventory), was never resolved (using SMS text).

* CAMOGLI - it was suitably active with local residents but not overrun by tourists/visitors. The seafront is pedestrianised and a pleasant place to stroll along.

* RESTAURANTS IN CAMOGLI - there was a strong bias towards fish dishes, and those restaurants which we tried were generally good value (with mid-range prices and above) and those we would/did visit again included:

- Cenobio Dei Dogi hotel ('La Terrazza di Giulia', Via Niccolo' Cuneo 34)
- La Loggia (Via Aurelia 31) - 12 mins on foot, lots of steps (Salita S. Prospero > (L) Via Romana > (R) Via S. Giocomo), or taxi 20-25 Euros, full of locals when we visited
- La Rotonda (Via Giuseppe Garibaldi 101)
- Sa (Via Piero Schiaffino 5)
- Xodo (Via Giuseppe Garibaldi 164)

Local food/produce - we bought fresh pasta and bolognese sauce on several occasions, from Pasta Fresca Fiorella on the sea-front near the harbour (Via Giuseppe Garibaldi 189), to cook at the apartment. A nearby green-grocers on the main street - Olcese E Bisso ('Frutta e Verdura', Via della Repubblica 184) - was very good. We also enjoyed the Colli di Luni Rosso wine and the Prosecco.

* TRIPS OUT - we used the local bus service to visit Santa Margherita (25 mins) and Recco (10 mins), and the regional train service to visit Genoa, Levanto, Rapallo, and Sori (birthplace in 1787 of Picasso's great-grandfather, Tommaso Picasso). We twice caught the local bus to nearby Ruta, and walked back to Camogli (three red balls painted on walls/lamposts as guidance). Similarly, we walked to San Rocco (about 30 mins, and definitely all uphill), then down to Punta Chiappa to catch the ferry back to Camogli. We also caught the ferry to and from Portofino. We relied on public transport - we did not hire a car nor did we feel inclined to do so.

* OVERALL - both Camogli and the apartment were enjoyable.
