Caravaggio, Guercino fans visiting Rome

A new exhibition has opened at Rome's Galleria Barberini which looks very interesting. "Da Guercino a Caravaggio", includes about 40 paintings from the collection of scholar and art collector Sir Denis Mahon (who I learned about in the fascinating book The Lost Painting, which is a factual account of the discovery of a lost Caravaggio that reads like fiction)

I am hoping to get there next week and the exhibit is on until February 8, 2015 I will report back!

Thanks Sandra! Did you know Jonathan Harr lives in Rome? He was living in Perugia next door to some friends of ours when he wrote that book, or at least part of it. We met him a few years later at a party in Cannara!

The exhibit sounds fabulous, you'll have to enjoy it for us, so please do report back!

Hi Barb and Art! I did not know that Harr lives in Rome, his book was brilliant. I wonder if he is working on something new?

I will definitely report back on the Caravaggio show.

HI Wendy and Rob, yes it did close. But as it turned out, it was not a very good exhibition. Very few Caravaggios and much more about those who followed his style.

Thank you, Sandra. We both hope we will see you while we are in Rome - our dates in Rome are May 21-June 13.

Oh, I hope to be in Rome at some point in June too! Mom and I are planning a Tuscany/Campania combo trip, and will likely flying in and out of Rome.

Anne, hi, I would love to meet you and your mom.
I have posted on here (and on ST), in the meet other travelers to try to get a gtg put together, keep an eye open and maybe if you could post your dates something can be put together with your timeframe in-mind. W&R
