Frecciarossa MIlano - Taranto

Earlier this month I flew into FCO in the afternoon and took the Leonardo Express to Termini. I then took the new Freccairossa 1000 (#9541) that goes from Milano to Taranto (and back) once a day. My destination was Potenza and the nice thing is I got on the train at Termini and did not have to get off until Potenza - most train routes are either change trains or a train/bus combo.

The train was about 20 minutes leaving Termini but they picked up some of the time between Roma and Napoli going 300 km/h and arrived in Potenza on time. This was a new train and I rode business class and was very comfortable. They announced a dining car but I didn't check it out.

This train makes one trip north in the morning leaving Taranto at 5:48 and arriving Milano 13:38 and then a return leaving Milano at 15:20 and arriving Taranto just after midnight.

This is the only high-speed train serving Basilicata.

The fast services are a joy and upgrading to 1st / Biz class is not excessive - indeed there are times that booking in advance makes it stupidly cheap.
