La Casa Rossa is a large agriturismo apartment in an old house (with a similar apartment on the other side of the house, Casa Rossa 2) on a hillside in the Friuli countryside. It is on the property of the Perusini Winery, about 10 minutes south of Cividale del Friuli. This is an attractive area of rolling, vine-covered hills, with lots to see and do within an hour's drive in any direction. The agriturismo's affiliated restaurant Al Postiglione is quite good, open Thurs-Sun. There are several other restaurants in the neighborhood, and the town of Corno de Rozzano has a good Despar grocery store, farmicia, and other shops.

Perusini has several rental apartments in various buildings--some near the winery building and pool, a few in back of the restaurant, others freestanding on the property. The owner, Teresa Perusini, speaks perfect English, as does her son. Email communication with Teresa was generally good. I will say that the level of detail on their web page describing the different features of the rentals could be improved--for example, the unit we originally wanted with the nicer kitchen (Casa Rossa 2) only had an external stairway, with bedrooms on first floor and bathroom on the ground floor--not mentioned in the description. However, the photos of each unit are good, so be sure to ask specific questions if you don't see something you're wondering about or want clarification. Luckily they had a vacancy our week and so we were able to take Casa Rossa next door which suited us better. It also had the better view. The Casa Rossa units do not have wifi, we used a cellphone for data tethered to a mifi for the laptop. The units closer to the winery do have wifi.

Casa Rossa is away from the winery up on a hillside, with a gorgeous view down through vineyards into the valley to mountains, and across into nearby Slovenia (you can drive to Slovenia for dinner in about ten minutes!) The downside is you travel up a very rough gravel road through the woods with some steep curves and drops. We managed it in a standard car, but it might not be to everyone's comfort level.

There's a porch with picnic table, we spent most of our time there. Inside is a kitchen, with enough equipment for simple cooking. We did need to wash out pots, plates etc. before use; and ask for things like a slicing knife and cutting board. There's a kitchen table (useful, as there's not much counter space for prep); and in the enormous living room, a dining table. The living room has two lumpy blanket-covered sofas that have seen better days, a chair and reading lamp, and a desk. It was clean, but this being out in the countryside, dust and insects do find their way inside; and you need to be scrupulous about crumbs or the ants will quickly find you.

A long flight of stairs leads upstairs. The top step is much steeper, and someone with mobility issues might find the stairs challenging (as I did that week, using a cane) The two pretty bedrooms were nicely furnished, although the beds were two twins with rather squishy mattresses pushed together. The bathroom was older but adequate, with a tub/shower combo with handheld shower I managed to fit into the mounting on the wall. Upstairs is another porch, with just a few pieces of rather dirty furniture. We didn't use it, as the lower porch was nicer.

Definitely a slightly quirky rental, with some minor minuses in convenience and comfort, made up for in the gorgeous view we enjoyed every morning and evening, surrounded by birdsong.
