Lake Maggiore ? (Spring 2018)

We're thinking of staying for a week somewhere on the Italian side of Lake Maggiore early April 2018.

We're interested walking locally and using local transport to visit one or two places. Nothing too intensive.

Arona seems convenient from Milano Malpensa airport - does anyone know the locality ? Anywhere else worth considering ? TIA.

We enjoyed staying in Stresa. It's a lively town with plenty of restaurants. We stayed within easy walking distance of the ferry station, from which lots of nice day trips are possible.

I'll second Stresa. We were only there for a couple of nights but really enjoyed it.
