Hey Doug, we stayed at Hotel Mundial near Praça de Figueira and had a great stay. That being said, it was in 2012, so...!
But I see the online reviews are still quite positive, so I would give it a shot. It is very central and 2-3 minutes from the train station.

We found a great Airbnb with bus stops very close by. The name of it is Graça Lovers 2 at 1 Rua Leite de Vasconcelos. Carlos was a great host and we loved the apartment. Bus 735 took us anywhere we needed or wanted to go in town. We also walked to a wonderful market on Tuesday and Saturday. He will tell you where it is.

Hi, Doug. I'm in Lisbon now and given the great public transit, I wish I had stayed in Estrela or Santos. We may be very different travelers, but check 'em out! Can also vouch for Georgia & Zig's Graca call. Central but quiet. Alfama is great for the photographer in me, but the neighbors tend to be old and grumpy. (Oops, sorry. Just noticed you have a place.)
