One day in Naples

My wife and I are traveling from Naples down to Calabria in the April. Looking for advice for our return. We are going to be coming back to Naples on the train. Would like to get a place to stay 2 nights, so we have a whole day to wander in Naples, and then be able to catch a bus or cab out to the airport. Suggestions on neighborhoods to look for a room? Looking for an area where we can wander and experience the culture and food of Napoli but still be able to easily reach the airport for a 10 AM flight out.

Have you seen Pompeii? You can walk from the train station, hotels literally across the street from the entrance then cab to the airport.

We did a similar trip earlier this year, taking the train back to Naples before flying out the next morning. I’d suggest staying in the Historic Centre (Spaccanapoli) or Chiaia. The Historic Centre is lively, full of local food spots, narrow streets, and great energy. Just book a taxi the night before since your flight’s early.

If you’d rather stay somewhere a bit calmer, Chiaia or the Lungomare area is a nice choice. You’ll get sea views, evening walks by the water, and still be close enough to reach the airport easily. It’s great for good restaurants and a relaxed vibe.

You could also check out this Capri–Amalfi Coast–Rome itinerary — it includes travel through the region and gives helpful ideas on how to plan routes and timing around Naples. Even with one full day, the city’s food, history, and energy really make it worth exploring before your flight.

I think that's a good decision point, on whether Rick is seeking the in your face intimate vibrancy of Napoli, or something a bit more relaxed in view of the short stopover.

Thanks for the advice. Just booked a small hotel on Via Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, Naples Historic Center. Looks great, nice location. Can't wait to stroll those streets.

Stay quick on your feet when you do -- stoplights and crosswalks just add to the point values of the drivers doing the Frogger simulation
