While on a tour in 2005 in Rome, I spotted two Vatican Swiss Guards with their distinct striped uniforms.

The harbor of Marsaxlokk, a small fishing village on the east coast of Malta, is lined with these striped fishing boats. At first glance they all look the same, but they are all slightly different. I was told that each family of fishermen have their own unique combination of stripes, but all use the same colors.

The best-known striped cathedral is probably in Siena. But the town of Pistoia had a bigger collection of striped buildings than anywhere else we've been. Here's a sampling.
