While visiting Amsterdam I took a tour which included a visit to a Delftware factory. Here we were able to watch these beautiful pieces are hand painted.

I purchased of a small vase for a souvenir.

Tourists are warned about the carpet shops in Tunisia and the hard sell if you go inside them. This was a carpet stall by the side of the road in the south of Tunisia, well away from the usual tourist beat, but wasn't doing much trade.

Hand painted eggs are traditional in north eastern Romania. They were given at Easter and were a symbol of rebirth. The egg was kept for the whole year to protect the family. They are now popular tourist souvenir. Be careful though as many sold from stalls along the roadside are made of wood and not eggs! We visited a small museum to watch eggs being painted.

The eggs are blown and soaked in salt water before being dried. This makes the shells quite hard and unlikely to break. The outline is painted in black and different colours are added to make the pattern. Considering it takes 2-4 hours to paint each egg, they were very reasonably priced from £3 for the cheapest up to £9 for the most expensive.

A visit to Ardmore Ceramics in the countryside outside Durban, South Africa. I wanted to buy a teapot but this zebra caught my eye.
