The pubs in the UK having been closing for years. Our small village (part of a market town with population 12,000) used to have two pubs on the Main Street. Now there are none. This photo from today's walk shows the old pub. Notice the big street lights. It is now a house.

The street lights are huge! I wonder why the homeowners would keep them, especially if they are as bright as they are big!

I think they are required to keep them. Most of this village is a conservation area (but not my house because it is newer).

We had dinner last night at a new restaurant in Napa. I loved this giant fork sculpture at the entrance.

And then when we got closer I discovered that the giant fork had been cleverly constructed from hundreds and hundreds of little forks.

The crocuses in my garden are very late flowering this year. This was taken while I was experimenting with a small Panasonic camera.

After a wet and overcast day yesterday, today is like summer - 50+F, sunny, gorgeous. We did a nice walk and had lunch in West Bay sitting at outside tables!

No. It was scary though just standing up at the top looking down! I have been up there in the summer, but for some reason with the snow on the jump, it was much more daunting. This is a photo of the ski jump along with 2 shorter jumps from the bottom of the jump...

I'm in NYC on my bi monthly Mom Check. Here is the dumbest and most pampered (and possibly smelliest, I'm throwing her into the shower with me tomorrow) shitz tsu in the city.

It was a beautiful day in the Luberon yesterday! I went on a long, somewhat strenuous hike in the Aiguebrun Valley with three friends. (We are two Australians, one Brit, and one American.) Near the end we discovered this beautiful and very unique borie. It was next to some old animal pens and quite large inside... so perhaps the shepherd once stayed there or it was used to store tools. Sometimes also they were used to protect the very young lambs or goats.

This is where we had lunch today - on a bench near the top of Thorncombe Beacon looking east to West Bay and Chesil Beach. Sunny and beautiful!
