Recent Experiences Returning to USA From Abroad.

Hello all!
My wife and I are tentatively planning a trip to Italy for three weeks in late February to early March, and she's very nervous about dealing with CBP on the way home. Has anyone come back to the States recently, and what has been your experience dealing with CBP? FWIW, we are both native born citizens.
Any experiences are welcome; let's talk about this a bit.
Tom

I’m a citizen born in the US. I returned from Paris to the Boston airport earlier this year. Absolutely no issues going through Customs and Border control. What exactly are your wife’s concerns? That might help us address the question better.

My wife and I are from the U.S. and currently traveling in France. (Just got to Arles an hour ago!) We share your concerns which are legitimate despite what another rude poster claims. My wife was born in Germany while her father was stationed there in the U.S. Army. (Stayed in the army for 30 years after joining straight from high school to fight against facism in WWIi.) Her U.S. passport says she was born in Germany and she knows of another citizen denied re-entry to the U.S. under the same circumstances.

So plenty to talk about. Not a ridiculous post.

I can't help with this particular issue but I think that members of this forum have always been helpful in discussing the worries of travellers. If I'm worried about something it's useful to hear other people's thoughts and experiences.....

As Tina said, forum members have always been helpful - MORE than helpful. I've always felt that I could come here with any question and get an answer. It doesn't matter if my question is naive or inexperienced, I've never been shot down.

Hearing other people's thoughts helps to assure me and, in other circumstances, educate me. We need each other!

We just got back from a Europe vacation to San Francisco few days ago . Hubby and I are both naturalized citizen both born outside the US in developing countries and our passports say so. We had no problem at all, not even the raise of an eyebrow. Just a welcome back; hope this reassures your wife

Letha, many thanks!

And my wife's concern is similar as she also holds an Italian passport. Tim, many thanks for your information.

KathyH, she's a dual citizen with an Italian passport. Her worry is that she'll be denied reentry because of that under this current chaos. A suggestion offered above is to carry a notarized copy of her birth certificate, we will be doing that.

And that was always my experience with Pauline's Slow Travel, and why I was delighted to find Slow Europe.
