The Bookshelf Apartment is located on the "quiet" side of Trastevere, across the Viale from the more heavily trafficked side. It is near Santa Cecilia. From here, you can catch the number 8 Tram (to Torre Argentina and Piazza Venezia) or walk another five minutes to get the Number 3 tram or the 75 bus through Testaccio, the Aventino, and Colosseum. We walked to Piazza Navona in 15 minutes, and to the Forum in 20.

The website description and photos are accurate (except the brown sofa is no longer there) . https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11692792

The apartment is on a small street, although you do need to be watchful for cars. Just across the street is one of the Insalada Ricca chain, for good salads and simple meals. Down the street an excellent seafood restaurant, La Mani in Pasta, and La Gensola, another good place for seafood a short walk away. Conad supermarket, good cheese shop, many other small shops nearby. Informal pizza place around the corner on the Viale. There is a door and locked gate to enter the building, and then up one flight of stairs to the apartment hall (with fascinating view of the neighbor's leafy terrace and laundry line) and entry.

Inside the extremely clean apartment is a living/dining room (large table for 4, two nice armchairs with a reading lamp), then through a curtained alcove a second living/sleeping room with comfortable sofabed, another pullout single bed, and a newer bathroom with walk-in shower. On the other side of the living/dining room is a door leading to a small kitchen, the main bedroom, and another bathroom with tub/shower. With the bedroom spaces at opposite sides of the apartment, there is good privacy for a family, or two couples if one doesn't mind a sofabed. The kitchen is best for simple meals, with a stove/oven, fullsize fridge, washing machine, but limited counter space and cooking equipment. (there were the basics--moka pots, 2 saucepans, 2 skillets, colander, a few spatulas, etc.)

Two steps up from the kitchen is a tiny terrace, just big enough for two at a bistro table. No view, but quiet. Tiled floors throughout, external shutters that when closed kept out most street noise, and decent wifi throughout the apartment and on the terrace. A pleasant and responsive owner and keyholder who speak excellent English.

We found the apartment to be good value for the price, and would recommend it to someone who wants the Trastevere experience and doesn't mind a very compact kitchen.

Thanks for the review. Always looking for good places in Trastevere. And Le Mani in Pasta has some of the best cacio e pepe around!
