We enjoyed the latest series from Steven Poliakoff--an acquired taste from some. Summer of Rockets is set in the late1950s amid the tensions of the nuclear arms race and the early days of space exploration. It is semi-autobiographical, featuring a Jewish family trying to find their place in the very class conscious British society who get involved in a very complicated spy drama. An excellent cast includes the always wonderful Keeley Hawes, Timothy Spall and Claire Bloom--now 88 years old--who plays the grand dame aunt.
Summer of Rockets review – Poliakoff has pulled it off at last!
This cold-war drama has Stephen Poliakoff’s trademark stilted dialogue, odd acting and overload of posh houses – but this time, I want to watch more
