I think I posted this article back on ST, but it appeared again (on Craftsmanship Quarterly) - a spotlight on an Italian master gelatiere, Andrea Soban, based in the Alessandria area, north-west Italy. We were in his gelato shop in Valenza (which is described in the article), on the way to Vigevano (worth a stop in itself). Valenza is a somewhat sleepy town, but a taste of Soban's gelato is worth the detour if you are looking for an additional gelato experience.
The article is a good way to learn what is really behind a truly artisanal gelato.

Another gelateria we enjoyed very much was Marchetti in Torino.
Feel free to tell us where you go for your fix....
