New Zealand is planning to take measures in order to prevent a return to pre-Covid levels of over-tourism in the relevant areas in the country. In an interesting article in The Guardian, it is stated that the measures could include a departure tax for all int'l flights that would help fund research for environmental causes, and also the allocation of financial incentives for businesses other than tourism, for those places that have become over-dependent on it.
It seems that at least some countries are committed to trying to restart things wisely, and using the shock of the pandemic to implement needed changes in their national infrastructures.
