Time to check passport expiration dates

I’ve started a new tradition. At the first of the year I check our passport expiration dates so I don’t have any surprises during the year, like I did last year when Steve’s British and Irish passports expired and we didn’t notice until just before a trip!

Excellent idea!!! I checked - mine expires August 2031 - so I have added to my calendar in October 2030 the reminder and earlier reminder dates...I know it's a bit away but always good to be careful. Thank you!!

That is a smart habit. Checking early saves stress and last minute fees. I do the same now, most countries want six months validity, so catching it early avoids ruined trips.

Interesting process to work with for the NEXUS U.S.-Canada border program; I'm not sure if Global Entry is similar. Mine expires on my birthday in 2027, and I can start the renewal application the day after my birthday in 2026. I need to see if this is the year when a certain credit card will reimburse the fee, applying the day after my late-summer birthday, then my wife can apply after her spring birthday in 2027 and use another credit card with the benefit. Then we'll see if this time they will require an interview at the border, and if we can find a convenient time to schedule us both.

We've just started the renewal of Art's passport - online this time. His expires in Dec '26, and we won't be traveling internationally until September, but we decided to renew now. We thought we'd save a few bucks by getting his photo taken at AAA, but they don't provide a digital copy, so we just went to Walgreens. I guess I could've taken it myself, but was too lazy to search for the template.

I looked at credit cards for free tsa and global entry

I did not find one with no annual rate. Or less than just paying the fee for tsa or global

Anyone seen anything different???

Yes, the Fidelity Rewards Visa , although they reimburse $100 and the Global Entry fee is now $120.

Liz & I are awaiting our new 10-year passports. We visited our local Service Canada office 10 days ago. Our applications were confirmed, submitted & paid for. Old passports cancelled - punched holes on covers - see pic. New adventures await!

My US passport was expiring soon. I did the online application January 7th and just received notification that it has was shipped on 1/16 so pretty fast turnaround time right now.

I had read that you could only renew your passport online if you had less than one year remaining, so on Jan 4 we submitted Art's passport for renewal. I had to get the photo from Walgreens because AAA doesn't offer a digital copy of your photo. I checked once and saw that his application had been approved, but was very surprised when his new passport arrived in the mail on Jan 18. We never received an email saying that it had been shipped. Two weeks!

Dave and I renewed ours last spring and also went with the 10 option. I was surprised how much the design has changed. I haven't gotten used to the polycarbonate info page yet. I like the new cover design though.

For the first time that we recall, we got email reminders from the US Dept of State that our passports would be expiring in a years time and inviting us to renew online. Hubby's was two months ahead of mine, applied online, took the photos with our iPhone and his new passport arrived two weeks later. I submitted mine a week ago and recd email acknowledgment that it is in process. Very easy online application

We knew my wife's passport needed to be renewed before we took out trip to Sardinia this July. So she renewed it last October. This month I made our flight reservations with Delta. Since we fly Delta regularly they have our passport info on file. Once the reservation was made, I received a notice from them to update my wife's passport info.

So they have a system to check that and alert you in case you weren't aware of the expiration date. I was impressed.
