We stayed 2 weeks in Il Nido in 2016 and absolutely loved everything about it. The "apartment" is extremely clean and has everything one needs including hair drier and straightener on European voltage, clothes washer, great drinking water, everything one could ask. The hosts are truly there to serve you and are enthusiastic about your stay. If you sign up for the "La Dolce Vita" package, we highly recommend it, there is enough food provided for many meals and also wonderful authentic activities. All activities are truly personal experiences with real people, nothing contrived. There are 2 books provided in the unit, one regarding the appliances etc. in the unit as well as local history and more. The other is full of suggested day trips and local attractions that one might not otherwise know about. Importantly, whether one signs up for "la dolce vita" or not, there is no pressure to participate or not in any activity. You can do as much or as little as you wish, they respect that this is your special time. We have never felt so pampered and cared for. Staying here and participating in some activities made this the trip of a lifetime.
We feel our hosts are truly friends after this stay.
It is hard to say enough about Le Casine di Castello. it is a truly authentic experience tailored to your wants.

We spent a wonderful week in the hills of Tuscany using our Il Nido unit in Le Casine di Castello as our home base. This is one of three properties owned the Moricciani family from San Gregorio, Pienza. We were in a tiny village and got to feel like a local as the residents cheerily greeted us each time we strolled by. Our unit was well stocked by Isabella's welcome basket, more like a welcome table, with enough food for daily breakfast and picnic lunches and even dinner if we were energetic enough. The pantry was well stocked. If anything was lacking, a quick text to Carlotta or Isabella got the "ball rolling." The setting was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and sachets, picture perfect. Le Casine di Castello is on the main road but we slept soundly each night, not ever being bothered by street noise. We participated in many of the activities planned at Cretaiole or elsewhere, easily joining the group start point in 10 minutes. Isabella also provides a terrific detailed guidebook with walks and drives to places that are "off the beaten path," letting you explore what most tourists do not see. In addition to any tours she has thought of, if you have something in mind Isabella will help to make it happen. We participated in many of the Dolce Vita activities which Isabella sets up and found it to be the best way to immerse in Tuscan life. and learn local history and culture at the hands of Carlotta, an excellent guide and Carlo, teaching us about farm life, the vineyard and olive grove from tree/vine to the tasting of each product. Not only were these activities fun but educational as well. We left The Moricciani family having learned so much that will enrich our lives in the years to come. Carlo and Isabella go out of their way to make sure guests have a positive experience in their corner of the world.

I have never experienced better hospitality in all of my travels. Isabella tends to every possible detail to make your stay exceptional. Carlotta is so interesting and warm as she leads you on numerous adventures. Luciano is just charming and such a hard worker. Carlo made our day showing up with pastries one morning totally unexpected and his BBQ skills are phenomenal-we loved the family pasta and BBQ dinner night!
Most the people we met there had stayed at the properties numerous times and we plan on returning in two years. I highly recommend booking with the Moricciani Family!!

We stayed in a cozy apartment called Il Nido in the heart of Castelmuzio which is a beautiful, quiet, authentic Tuscan hilltop village. Il Nido had ancient brick walls and arching brick ceilings. It opened onto our own private terrace which proved perfect for morning breakfasts and late night romantic drinks. Il Nido is naturally cooled by the thick brick walls and you could sleep with the terrace doors open and listen to crickets and owls. When we arrived we were welcomed at the door and shown into this beautiful residence which was adorned throughout with flowers and a beautiful welcome basket of local fresh foods.
There are meals and experiences that are planned throughout the week which are optional, very reasonable priced and simply amazing.
We travelled to Tuscany to get married and have to send out a special thank you to Isabella who, upon learning of our wishes, truly went above and beyond what could be expected to ensure all of tour needs were met and a Tuscan Wedding was as special as the words sound. Sincerely, Isabella, Thank You!
I simply cannot explain how beautiful our residence was, how helpful Isabella was and how kind the local people are.

Vacation Rental Name: "Il Nido" in Le Casine di Castello
On April 28, 2015, we returned from a 2 1/2 week vacation in Italy and this was our 2nd stay in "Il Nido", in Castelmuzio, Italy. Our 2nd stay was as wonderful as our 1st! It could not have been more perfect. Isabella and Carlo Moricciani, our hosts, who also own Agriturismo Cretaiole in Pienza, about 10 minutes away, love what they do, and it shows in every way. Carlotta, who works closely with Isabella, is another member of the team that together manages to take care of every detail at all of their properties all week long, to make your stay one that will be cherished forever, and also make you want to return. You may arrive as a guest, but you will definitely leave feeling like a member of the family!
"Il Nido" is a small, rustic apartment for 2 in the charming, tiny village of Castelmuzio. As you enter the apartment, your eyes are immediately drawn to the kitchen area directly ahead of you, with all the charm of a Tuscan country kitchen on a smaller scale, complete with the Bialetti Moka Pot on the stove. The kitchen table overflows with fruit, vegetables, bread, cookies, pasta....a wonderful welcome gift! There is a co-op in the village where you can pick up additional supplies you may need during the week.
Isabella has lovingly prepared a very thorough travel book for use during your stay, complete with suggestions for dining and sightseeing in the area. You will feel like a local after going through this book!
A washing machine is available for your use, as well as a drying rack.
"Il Nido" is immaculate and tastefully decorated throughout and there is a wonderful shower, with the highest quality shower and skin care products available for your use. There is a welcoming patio outside the kitchen area where you can have a meal or just relax in a chair.
I would definitely recommend you opt for the "Dolce Vita" package when making your reservation, as this will include additional activities that you don't want to miss....a few options include a tour of the area, a tour of the Moricciani farm and the products they produce, an olive oil tasting with professional olive oil taster, Carlo! There is also included in this package a not to be missed fun evening of a dinner, which begins with making pici pasta with Isabella and Carlotta, followed by a wonderful dinner of grilled meats, and sides that guests help contribute. There are many more fun and unique activities to choose from during the week, at reasonable prices, that you are free to sign up for, depending completely on what you what to do or how busy you want to be.
Castelmuzio is about a 10-minute drive from Pienza, a wonderful town to explore, with many interesting shops and dining options.
For a quiet, relaxing retreat, with plenty of charm, and close proximity to many wonderful villages to explore, I would definitely recommend "Il Nido"!

10 Stars Plus: “Paradise Found” is how visitors often refer to our home state of Hawaii but we have found our own slice of paradise in the delightful agriturismo, Cretaiole and its companion property, Le Casine Di Castello, both owned and operated by the Famiglia Moricciani. Isabella is the “concierge extraordinaire,” Carlo her husband, tends both to the farm and visitors (even arranging and escorting my husband to an emergency dental appointment), Luciano, the family patriarch, will among other things delight, thrill and humor you with late night visits to Cretaiole to share grappa, vino and dancing, and Carlotta, a true gem and family friend, transcends all tour guides to a level worthy of escorting royalty.
Regrettably, by the time we jumped in to book our reservations, Cretaiole was completely full so Isabella offered to place us at “Il Nido,”a romantic studio apartment at Le Casine Di Castello, in the charming medieval hilltop village of Castelmuzio only minutes from Cretaiole. We were able to immerse ourselves into all Cretaiole activities that appealed to us. I am not sure if other Tuscany agriturismos, of which there are hundreds, go to the length, depth and breadth of providing for their guests as the Moricciani Family does. Here are but a few of the many services offered to us at Le Casine Di Castello.
1. Upon arrival, a fully equipped kitchen filled with an abundance of food.
2. The use of a cell phone during your stay for easy accessibility to the Moriccianis.
3. A 190 page “Discover Hidden Tuscany” Travel Guide Book especially created by Isabella for guests which you are encouraged to take on day trips with you.
4. Extraordinary adventures, many of which were arranged only for Le Casine Di Castello and Cretaiole guests.
And most importantly, I am not sure where else in Tuscany you could find the comraderie, friendships and devotion to guests than those offered at Cretaiole and Le Casine Di Castello. Major thumbs up.

A friend and I recently returned from a 3-week trip to Italy. It was truly fabulous, beginning in Venice, ending in Florence and the rest of the time in the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
The highlight of our trip was staying at Le Casine di Castello (Il Cielo) in Castelmuzio, a charming small Etruscan hill town off the beaten path but near Pienza. Our stay was beyond all expectations. The Moricciani family was a delight. Isabella felt like she had been a friend forever and she did everything possible to make our stay perfect. When we arrived, the kitchen table was filled with baskets of vegetables, fruits, sweets, pasta, bread, etc. There was yogurt, eggs, milk and juice in the refrigerator. There was wine and liqueurs to enjoy, plus all the usual condiments, olive oil, vinegar, salt, spices, coffee, etc., etc., etc. It was AMAZING!
The apartment was tastefully decorated with special touches and comfort in mind. The recently updated bathroom was furnished with lovely shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, and wonderful large towels. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were marvelous. There was a small room with a washing machine and a sink for doing hand laundry, which was very handy. Sitting out on the roof top terrace enjoying cheese, bread, wine and the beautiful village sights and scenery was such a treat after a day on the go.
Castelmuzio was a perfect location for taking day trips throughout the region. A binder compiled by Isabella equipped us with all we needed for visiting other hill towns and provided information for areas we would not have found in a tour book. It was invaluable and we used it daily.
We visited the family farm where we were welcomed with open arms by Luciano and Liliana. After a tour of the farm, we all shared in some prosciutto, salami, cheese, bread and wine, all produced on the farm. This was a very special afternoon. We also attended a dinner at Le Cretaiole, where we indulged in a wonderful Tuscan meal and left, as they say in Italian, "pieno come un uovo (full as an egg). It was a very festive and memorable evening.
I cannot say enough about Le Casine di Castello and the Moricciani family. If you have an opportunity to visit the area, don't think twice about staying here. Do it ... you won't regret it. This was truly an experience to be remembered. It was PERFECT and I want to return.

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment in Castelmuzio, (a hill top medieval village) part of the Le Casine di Castello Agritourism. The accommodation exceeded our expectation. The apartment is furnished with high level furniture and antiques and included are the extras like Italian linens, lotions and soaps in the bathroom and foodstuffs in the kitchen. We had access to all the programs and activities of the Agritourism. The Morriciani family have assembled very high quality choices of a broad variety, so we had great activities. In every way we felt the family has set the bar very high to ensure the comfort of their guests.

We had a wonderful week in Tuscany, courtesy of Isabella, Carlo, Luciano and Carlotta at Le Casine di Castello! We stayed in a lovely studio (with a very large bathroom and a beautiful secluded patio where we could eat outside or lounge in the sun) called Il Nido in the medieval hilltop town of Castelmuzio - just 15 minutes from Piensa and 15 minutes from Cretaiole, the family's agroturismo (we found it in Rick Steve's).
A huge welcoming basket of breads, cookies, biscotti, fresh garden vegetables, wine, fresh fruits and pastries greeted us at our temporary home, as well as all the basic kitchen and bathroom needs. We were provided with a big book of places to go and things to see in the area - all with driections, GPS coordinates and approximate times to destination.
At Cretaiole, we were provided with a list of that week's offered activities, of which we could participate as little or as much as we wanted. A visit to the family farm in Pienza that included tasting of the family wine, olive oil, prosciutto and cheese products, an exploration of an ancient hermitage, a pici-making class that included the resulting dinner (with wine and Luciano's famous grappa!), and an olive oil tasting class led by master taster Carlo were all included in the price of our stay!! Other available excursions/activities were reserved for you if you so desired, such as guided tours to Siena, wine tastings, cheese tastings, hikes, photography and painting classes, dinners, all at reasonable cost.
Our hosts were accessible and extremely approachable/helpful - so friendly and gracious and anxious to do anything to make our stay perfect. A 30 second phone call from Carlo got us a dinner reservation at a restaurant in Pienza where we couldn't get a reservation.
The locations were all beautiful, the amenities were lovely and the people were fantastic. We had a wonderful time! Grazie mille Isabella and Carlo! Can't wait to return - oh that reminds me, several people that were staying at Cretaiole during the week we were there in late June were return visitors. That tells you everything you need to know!

The Moricciani family have created a very special environment that helped us experience southern Tuscany to the fullest. Starting with Isabella "Red Book" full of day trips, eating recommendations, wine tasting and hot springs to "Pici Night where she teaches everyone to make pasta the Tuscan way. Her husband, Carlo runs the farm and occasionlly brings treats, such as homemade riccotta cheese to their guests and he is a professional olive oil taster and gives everyone a lesson in the finer points of EVOO. We stayed in Il Cielo, a spacious, well equipped, very clean two bedroom apartment in the quaint hill town of Castelmuzio. We made good friends with the Moricciani's and look forward to visiting them again soon.

Castelmuzio, with its population of about 250, is prched on a hilltop, and is the perfect center point for exploring Tuscan life -- food, wine, people and most remarkable of all, the incredible Tuscan sun. It's different there. Colors are more lush, edges are shaper, the air crisper. Several other small Tuscan villages and towns are within 45 minutes of driving along swooping, curving roadways with stunning vistas over grape vines, olive trees, cyprus and farmland, and each town offers its own episode to dine and explore.
In Castelmuzio, four of us in two families stayed in Il Cielo for a week in May 2012, a two-bedroom townhouse with a fully outfitted kitchen that soon became our central meeting place for breakfast, snacks and mapping our adventures. We kept our menus simple -- and costs down -- thanks to occasional trips to the local co-op, or visits to food and wine shops in larger near-by towns, or the delightful cafe in Castelmuzio.
The charismatic Isabella and the rest of the Moricciani family, our landlord, opened their home and farm to guests, who could participate in a wide variety of adventures, including hand-making Tuscan pasta, sampling extraordinary farm-grown wines, cheeses and meats; assistance in venturing further afield to Siena and Assisi; and generally making certain that everything is as we hoped it would be.
This is a family that has hospitality and friendliness in each member's DNA.

Vacation Rental Name: Le Casine di Castello AND Casa Moricciani
We had the incredible pleasure of staying at two of Isabella and Carlos properties, though that was not the plan when we boarded a plane to Italy. Due to the floods and landslides which happened in Montorosso, Cinque Terre, our intended destination, we were forced to make very last minute plans. Our trip, which was planned around a business meeting in Milan, would only allow 4 days of travel before boarding a plane back in Milan. A quick email to the Rick Steves website yielded an immediate personal response with a couple of ideas in Tuscany. Isabella Moricciani of Casa Moricciani, responded to our phone call in minutes (speaking perfect english), directed us on train departures for that afternoon, and had a rental car waiting for us at the station when we arrived. It was very late when we arrived in the little town of Castlemuzio. Isabella and her husband Carlos were waiting for us at the entrance to the town. They showed us to the villa, unloaded us, then asked the local restaurant to stay open so we could have a late dinner. It's the only restaurant in town, and the food and service are both fabulous.
Isabella was helping other tourists that were in the same predicament. For that reason she moved us around a little so all could be accommodated. The first night we stayed in Casa Moricciani which is exquisite in every detail. This villa mixes the old with the new, as you will find antique doors, woodwork, furniture, and artwork along with beautiful travertine bathrooms and an awesome kitchen complete with fully stocked wine cooler, fresh fruit and flowers, coffee, milk in the refrigerator and more. The master suite bathroom has a beautiful deep jacuzzi tub, which lead to a relaxing end to a very hectic day. The view of Tuscany from the back yard is breathtaking - complete with rolling hills, olive orchards, vineyards, castles, and churches, whose bells would chime in unison on the hour. If that weren't enough to keep you glued to the back yard, as you look around there is an herb garden, an outdoor shower covered in jasmine and a small stone fountain/wading pool.
The next three nights we stayed in II Nido also in Castelmuzio. It is a downstairs apartment in a charming old stone townhouse called La Casine de Castillo. It is cozy, quite lovely, very clean and well appointed, with an arching brick ceiling, modern bathroom and small kitchen with a table. It's decorated in antiques and artwork with the same flair as Casa Moricciani. The king bed was perfect, the kitchen was great for making a quick meal or coffee, and the private courtyard was a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine by candlelight. There are a couple of bikes parked in the entry for guests use. A sweet little hideaway for a couple to enjoy privacy as well as a great location to adventure from.
As guests, we were invited to the three generation family farm, San Gregorio in Pienza. There, we visited with family members and other guests while learning about (and tasting) the delicious wines, olive oils, prosciutto and cheeses. Guests are free to pick fresh vegetables from a large garden. In Isabella's "Big Book", which is provided at each property, she has listed all the best restaurants to try, car tours to take and towns not to miss. In addition, the family provides experiences and activities that you can participate in if you wish. Through an established network of locals, there are activity choices beyond the family farm as well. We chose a 3 hour walking tour through the vineyards and olive orchards of the Val d'Orcia which was a photographers dream.
It was a whirlwind trip, and we are still awestruck at the speed with which Rick Steves redirected us to this fabulous destination. And we are forever grateful to Isabella and Carlos for their grace and warmth in taking us in and making our short unplanned stay into a dream vacation we will always remember. We hope to come back and bring the family one day - soon!

My wife, Lynn, and I just returned from our 2+ week visit to Tuscany. Our 1st week was spent at Le Casine di Castello in apartment Il Nido. Isa's skills as a host, decorator, and "travel guide" (her "red book" is wonderful & full of detailed day trips) are outstanding. As SueBeth commented, Isa has thought of everything - if you forgot something, chances are Isa already has it in the apartment. There was enough coffee, tea, milk, snacks, not to mention their superb olive oil & rosso wine, to get you started for the first couple of days. I think our wine bottle had a hole in it because the wine disappeared much too quickly! The apartment is equipped with all the amenities you will need, including a washing machine. The outside courtyard was very secluded and was a perfect place to relax. When Isa found that our cell phone wasn't working, she let us borrow one of hers for emergency's. Le Casine di Castello is situated in the center of Castelmuzio and really gives you a sense of being more of a local than that of a tourist passing thru. We found staying in Il Nido/Castelmuzio both relaxing & invigorating; we were perfectly situated to explore all of the beautiful hill towns of the d'Orcia valley (we even managed to find San Quirico d'Orcia much to Carlo's surprise).
Based on amenities, hospitality, and location, I can't imagine staying anywhere else when visiting this area. Isa and her family made us feel like we belonged, and that is what separates Le Casine di Castello from the rest of the pack. You won't be disappointed.

Have stayed in the Town Suite Il Nido and the Town House Il Cielo. Both are great! Il Nido has a nice private courtyard. Il Cielo is comfortable for 4 people. Bathroom, eating area and living area were all very spacious and clean. Il Cielo has a rooftop terrace with a table. We had many meals and glasses of the Moricciani Family's homemade wine overlooking the town.
There are some great restaurants and a grocery store all within walking distance. There is a parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking on the streets. Little things like these make the trip more pleasant.
Isabella has thought of everything for you. She has 2 notebooks in each place that are loaded with all the information about surrounding towns that is very helpful. This is a wonderful location and we were able to make day trips and see so much of Tuscany.
Isa also offers many enjoyable activities so you are never bored. Be sure to participate in her "pici" pasta making class! Afterwards she and Carlo have a delicious dinner for everyone that is so much fun! They serve you their homemade sausages, cheese and wine. A great evening learning to make local Italian pasta and meeting new friends on her beautiful property.
I can not say enough fabulous things about Isabella, her family and their properties! My advise to everyone is to stay at Le Casine Di Castello - I promise you won't be disappointed. Make your plans soon because my family is telling everyone how wonderful it is and you won't want to miss out!

Seven of us (husband, 4 children and mother-in-law) met my brother-in-law and his wife (who live in Europe) for a truly magical week. Our family (7 of us) stayed in the upstairs apartment. Even though we had a large group, the apartment provided plenty of room and was very comfortable. We loved having breakfast on the rooftop terrace! It felt like we had a little taste of what it would be like to live as locals.
Castelmuzio is a lovely, quaint town. Our children really enjoyed playing at the little park which is almost directly across the street from the apartment. They also loved riding the bicycles that were provided in the apartment, through the town and out onto a small road that went through an olive grove. There were lots of kid-friendly areas to explore but at the same time all the adults were equally as happy.
Isabella truly is a huge reason that our stay was so wonderful. Her knowledge and love for her culture, particularly the Val d'Orcia, is wonderful and inspiring! We learned so much from her and her family and my children are still talking about our time there. We loved every activity, from the amazing tour of the Hermitage, to the pici making class. It was all just so unique and I can't imagine having a more authentic experience anywhere else. Isabella is a very special hostess who seems to have boundless warmth and energy! She took very good care of us and we can't wait to return!
