Was just poking around in the UA site and found a ticket offer ("ONLY 4 LEFT" -- never know if this is true or not) that allowed me to buy two business class tickets between Washington Dulles and Rome (May departure; July return) for an approximate $8,000 savings over what I normally pay when I buy tickets in January. I keep looking at the receipt and confirmation to see if I missed something, but I have a confirmation with seat assignments, so think I'm ready to do a little dance of joy. Might suggest other United users see if there are opportunities from your departure cities.
