We are doing something this visit to Rome that we have never done in the past, so I am hoping someone on the Forum will have some recent experience with something similar to this.
Our plans for Tues, Oct 10
1. We have tickets purchased for the Vatican Museums at 11am. This visit will only really be to see the Sistine Chapel. My husband and I have been to the museums several times before, but we are bringing friends this trip who are really only interested in seeing the Chapel. So we will walk (as the crowds allow) directly there, knowing it will take awhile.
2. Our Scavi tour is at 3pm. The last time we did this tour, there was no security line to go through to get into St. Peter's Square...we only had to check in with the Swiss guards at the entrance to the Scavi office to the left of St. Peter's.
We realize that this time we will have to walk back through the museums to exit after the Chapel. (In the past, we had always taken the door to the right directly into St. Peter's from the Chapel - we understand they are much stricter about that now). We will need to walk all the way back around the Vatican Museums to the Scavi entrance...do we have to go through the newer security line to get into the Square and then go to the Scavi entrance or is the Scavi entrance outside the secured area of St. Peter's Square? I am trying to figure out how many security lines we will need to go through.
I am trying to make sure that we give ourselves enough time from visiting the Chapel to get to the Scavi tour by 2:40 pm.
