Visa - and no I'm not talking about a credit card

So evidently at the current time Americans will be required to have a visa to visit the EU.

Is one visa sufficient or will I need one for Ireland, England, Spain and Italy?

The word 'Visa" implies something that I have to secure before leaving for the destination country. Some countries (Thailand for eg) allow Visa on arrival to certain nationalities.

How does this affect the 90 days and out rule?

This hasn't been fully approved or implemented (and hopefully won't be). You don't need a visa now if you are traveling as a tourist staying less than 90 days in a 180 day period.

Most of the EU (and Switzerland) are part of the Schengen treaty and operate as a common border. The UK has never participated. There's lots of info on the internet about this.

I thought that was an old vote, mostly symbolic, as a way of pushing America to honour the same freedoms it offers to most, but not all Euro countries. The vote puts the threat in place, but implementing it would be a major undertaking that benefits no-one.
