What's a good rate for car rental: Aug 2019?

Hi there. I searched but couldn't find anything related to this: I'll be in Tuscany for two weeks in Aug 2019. I've been checking rates on AutoEurope for a midsize manual with no deductible. It's hovering arount $750 for a 15 day rental. Is this about the best I can get? Are there other sites I can try? I have a Hertz Gold account but when I went through their website there was no zero-deductible option.

Thanks,
Dan

For this past September, I had a compact with zero deductible booked through AE at $353 for 13 days. We split our time in Italy into two rentals, we had a change of plans, and this one was booked five days in advance. I don't know if you should expect higher rates for August, but I think it's early to do a prepaid rental. If you keep checking, I think the rates are more likely to get lower than higher, although if you do book now and the rate gets lower, you can rebook at the lower rate. You can also try the Canadian Auto Europe site (use a card with no foreign exchange charges and calculate what the Canadian dollar quote is in USD); it's been o.k. for U.S. residents to use it. There's also their associated company Kemwel. I don't know if your quote is for picking up at an airport, which has a surcharge.

We always rent from AutoEurope, and have one reserved for our upcoming May/June trip, 12 days, including pickup and drop-off days. We will pick up in Rome, and drop off in Venice. All inclusive is $383.40,, compact, four door, manual and A/C. For the first time they sent us information for registering ahead of time, which will hopefully make the pickup and drop-off process in Rome easier. All these years of renting from them, we've never known about the pre-register. I have no idea if it's something new.

We usually use https://www.easyterra.com/ to see what is available and you can get some no ded and extra driver incl options. I also have Hertz and Avis accounts that I compare and the EasyTerra is always cheaper for the same cars.

Price can also depend on the size of the car and where you pick it up (airports have added fees).

We just had a car for a week for $130 (yes $) for 2 drivers from Avis. Of course, we are in what everyone considers the "poor" south.

If a Fiat 500L qualifies, you can reserve one for random August 2019 dates for at least $150 less than your quote right now via Auto Europe and Europcar, picking up and dropping off at Florence airport 13 days later. And as Andrew said, if you reserve now and keep monitoring prices, you will usually eventually be able to price match an even lower rate before next August. Buona fortuna.
