I always buy airfare too early. Any airfare. As soon as I know I'm going somewhere, airfare is the first thing I book, even if it's a year away. I'm not sure if the rules changed, or if I was always wrong to assume that the earlier you bought, the cheaper the tickets. Now I think the rule of thumb is to start looking 6 months out for flights to Europe - is that correct? I've already booked our flights from the U.S. to Scotland for August, but that's because I used FF miles to book, so I wanted to make sure I got a direct flight.
Now I need to book our flight from Edinburgh to Rome FCO. I'll need to fly a major carrier because of our luggage, and BA is fine with us. We'll have to change in London. So - is it too early to be looking at those flights? The BA website says there are only 6 tickets @ £155 left for our preferred departure time. Isn't there a site where I can check historical prices, and does that mean anything?
