Hello folks! My husband, mother and I are planning a trip to Italy this October. We will be in Rome for only three nights (I know, not very slow!) and I am trying to figure out the best way to use our time. We are staying in a rental apartment in Trastevere. Our two full days are October 7 and 8 (a Saturday and Sunday).
Mom and I have never been to Rome, and my husband has not visited in decades. One of our priorities is seeing the ancient sites, especially the Colosseum/Forum/Palantine Hill. I have been considering the possibilities of a tour both to skip the lines and to make the best use of our times.
I was wondering if anyone here has advice on the best tour options. I don't think our budget could handle more than around $100 dollars per person. I have seen a number of different tours ranging from the basic group tour with 25 people or so, to smaller groups of 15, to private guides. I've also seen some more expensive options that include the "Colosseum Underground." Does anyone have an opinion on whether the underground version is worth the additional cost? There are also some tours that include "Caeser's Palace" and I am curious if anyone has gone there and found it more compelling than the underground Colosseum version.
Any other advice about tours of these sites is welcome! Thank you!
