Article - Five Best Pub Lunches in the Cotswolds

I am a HomeAway.co.uk travel expert for the Cotswolds (yes, me!!).
But of course you are! We are not surprised.

Great article. I can personally second your Lygon Arms pub recommendation, exploring Chipping Campden, and what a more beautiful way to complete the day than a visit to Hidcote Manor.

Sigh, I yearn to return to the Cotswolds, and see more.

Great article Pauline! When we are in the Cotswolds later this year, we will definitely make a point of visiting some of these pubs!

In another thread Kathy recommends The Fleece Inn in Bretforton, owned by the National Trust. Originally a half-timbered medieval farmhouse, it's an historic inn now known for folk music, morris dancing, antique cars and an asparagus auction for a local charity.

On a cold drizzly March day, we enjoyed our lunch by the fire in the ancient building. Good selection of hand-pumped real ale and cider, and traditional pub food including faggots, which are meatballs made of minced pork heart and bread crumbs wrapped in caul fat -- a cheap meal for Victorian-era factory workers which has become a traditional English dish -- served, of course, with mash with red wine gravy and mushy peas.

The Fleece is not on the main road (the B4035) but on Main St. which intersects, then curves to run parallel with it a block south, near the church. Many tables were reserved when we walked in at noon, so call ahead in high season.
