Article - Wild, Medieval, Non-Touristy Umbria

Surprisingly, I've been to all but Narni and Todi. Loved them all.

One thing that I missed in Umbria and Tuscany (most of Italy?) is a good hiking/walking path system. Granted there are some paths, but they seem limited at best. For me, that's what wild, medieval, and non-touristy means.

I agree Terry, Tuscany and Umbria are not great places for hiking. There are trails, and the signs and maintenance has improved in the last 10 years (we noticed this on our July trip to Tuscany), but you have to work hard to find good hikes.

Rebecca from Brigolante wrote a good overview of hiking in Umbria on her website. She also recommends 5 hikes in Umbria on the Homeaway.co.uk site.
