Bill Sutherland

I got an e-mail this week from Tuscan Women Cook sharing the news that Bill Sutherland, one of the founders, had died in Texas where he and Patty moved after selling the business in Montefollonico.

I never met Bill but I remember him as the first person on Slowtalk who responded to my first request on the forum. I'd never posted on any forum before, I didn't really know what to expect and I'd asked some rather specific questions about the train station in Chiusi Scalo. Bill answered in great detail and went on to help me with several other questions about the area. He was pretty much my entree into that wonderful community, from which I learned so much and met so many great people and fellow travelers.

I also remember getting so much very helpful advice from him. So sorry to hear this sad news.

I am very sorry to hear this news. Bill was very ill several years ago but recovered.

Here is a photo from our very first SlowTrav GTG, September 2001, in Tuscany. Bill is on the right at the front and Patti to the right of Steve at the back.

Thanks for posting this...we were fortunate to visit Bill and Patty one afternoon when we were staying in nearby San Quirico d'Orcia. He was a very charming man. Sorry to hear of his passing.
