Not so much a travel but rather a foodie question. In my thousands of notes for this trip, I came across a posting (where is anyone's guess) indicating that Caffe Magnani was really good and that the capsules were compatible for Nespresso machines. I can only see a reference to purchasing these on Amazon.uk, and there was at one time an offering on Groupon.uk, which is now finished.

Can anyone attest to the flavour of these Magnani capsules and advise as to where can they be purchased?

Thanks very much.

Thanks Pauline for taking a look for us. I started to dig deeper, and looks like it could be a Dutch product. Odd that it should be sold on UK on-line sites. Hopefully, there is someone who has experienced this so called excellent coffee?

We are in Switzerland now, home of Nespresso. When we were here 5 years ago we did not find Nespresso substitutes in the supermarket, but now there are several. Our vacation rental has a Nespresso machine, so we have been buying them. Maybe they are in the UK shops and I did not notice?

These substitutes are plastic pods and not as good as the real thing, but are pretty good. They sell 3 types, each with different strength options.

Jacobs momente (my current favorite)
La Mocca by Coop (Coop is the supermarket chain)
Cafe Vergnano

Interesting. Are you bringing any back with you? Obviously the "knockoffs" are out there, just have to look harder. There's even a youtube video about creating one's own pods. That's a bit over the top, I'd say. Sort of takes the ease out of coffee making. Currently our Nespresso pods are about 70 cents each, many of which I find are not as full bodied as I would like. We will be in Paris next week and the UK the following week, where there will be a hunt for the "knockoffs" (if they are good).Couldn't find any further info on the Café Magnani brand.

These pods are good, but they are made of plastic. Nespresso are aluminum I think? I am not sure if they are better than Nespresso. But they are great for traveling because you can buy them in a shop. With Nespresso you can buy them online or by phone.

correct on both counts for the pods. Aluminum for easy recycling, and the necessity of ordering directly from Nespresso. If there is another producer out there with flavourful pods and at less cost, I am interested.
