Continued delays at Rome's FCO T3 due to May fire

Hi everyone!
Apparently, there are still significant delays at Terminal 3 of Rome's Fiumicino airport because of a fire there in early May - almost eight weeks ago. The repair work is ongoing but the airport authority has said that this has cut into their capacity.

Anyway, a friend told me this morning that her flight from Rome to Berlin was delayed in leaving by two hours last week, check-in took much longer than normal, and when she returned to Rome her luggage took another two hours to be unloaded.

In terms of departures, checking some of the flight tracking websites, delays of 90 minutes or two hours seems to be common.

Terminal 3 mainly affects some domestic Italian flights but also a lot of European flights, so anyone coming from North America and transferring in, say, Frankfurt to Rome could find themselves tangled up in the Terminal 3. Or if visiting Italy and transferring out of Rome for another area, it could be delayed.

And around here, chaos does tend to spread, so I have the impression the entire airport may be a little more dysfunctional than usual.

I am leaving Tuesday for a week in Berlin and am factoring in the likelihood of long delays in checking in and taking off!

Cheers,
Sandra

Also, Air Canada check in is still diverted to terminal 5, although you must get to terminl 3 to get to the departure gate. See the notice on the front page of the airlines website. It is not on the boarding pass or any notifications you get.
Have a good trip to Berlin, sandrac/
