cottage in Devon?

We will be driving to the West Country late Sept. for 5-6 days, then on to the Cotswolds. In trying to stay as central as possible for exploring this area and wanting a leisurely drive to the Cotswolds, we have zeroed in on places to the west of Exeter. Namely Chagford, Lifton, & Lydford. which were all found on Homeaway. But before we commit, we'd like to know if anyone knows or has stayed at a gem that we've possibly missed. We are looking for a 1-2 bedroom (they are virtually the same cost). We realize that it's likely we'll have to pay for a full week. However, that cost is more attractive and offers convenience over individual stops along the route.

Chagford is a very good town. We stayed nearby once and I wished we had stayed in Chagford. I don't know the other two towns. The area on the eastern edge of Dartmoor is lovely.

Don't overlook the local holiday cottage agencies. There are many good ones in England. We rented a few years ago from Helpful Holidays. They are based in Chagford. Many owners in England do not list on the rent from owner sites like homeaway, but instead go with local agencies. I have a list here:
