Dublin Airport Hotel

Next year we'll be flying to Bucharest via Dublin. We're planning to spend a night or two in Dublin, and I'd like to find an airport hotel that has a shuttle, either into the city center (doubtful) OR to the airport, where we could hopefully find easy connections to the city. TIA

Hi artnbarb. This may not directly address your question, but I hope my experience can help in some way. In May ‘23, we stayed at the Maldron Hotel Airport, which was fine but not cheap (I think we paid in the neighborhood of EU250). I don’t believe it has a shuttle to either of your proposed destinations, but the airport is a short walk from the hotel. Best ways to the city center were bus from the airport (which we did upon arrival) or cab (which we did prior to departure). There is no tram or lightrail etc. service to/from the airport. Please let me know if i can help with anything (I love Dublin!)

Also not an answer to your question but we just returned from Ireland and I was surprised at how close the airport is from the city center & how inexpensive a private car service was. If you're staying two nights, I don't think a near airport hotel is necessary, as it won't save much time/cost.

We're still coordinating with my daughter and her husband. We don't really have much interest in staying in Dublin, but I think they'll want to stay a few days. We'll try to coordinate so that we'll all fly from Dublin to Bucharest, but now I'm thinking we might just spend one night in Dublin, going into the center for a stroll and a meal. They can arrive a few days before us if they want. Breaking up the flight will definitely help with the jetlag!

That compromise sounds ideal - your stop merely functional to get some rest from the long flight (and avoid adding a laundry day complication to your Bucharest leg), whilst they get to experience the city more fully, and may be happy to pack/carry a few days more clothing each.

A stroll along the River Liffey and perhaps a pop-in to Trinity College (see the Book of Kells and Long Library) together with a pint or a meal or two (Dublin has made culinary strides over the past decade) might lift your jet-lagged spirits. City center is eminently walkable. Here’s hoping you have a safe and wonderful trip.

Steve R: thanks for the information about how possible it is to conveniently stay in town rather than feel limited to choice of airport hotel. We’ll give it a try on our first ever Dublin day next spring.
