Flying Lufthansa US to Italy

Has anyone flown on Lufthansa recently ? I am concerned about the carryon bag weight limit of
8 kg/ 17.5 lbs . My IT bag is about 3.2 lbs so realistically that leaves about 14 lbs of stuff. Do they actually weigh the bags? My purse sometimes weighs 10 lbs! First time i will encounter this so any advice will definitely help. Thanks.

My experience has been that I have never had my carry on weighed in the US on a trip to Europe.
It always gets weighed on the trip from Europe back to the US or within the EU.
In fact on our last trip American weighed the carry on.

First rule of travel
Pack everything you want to take; then remove half of it, and you will still be over packed.

Second rule of travel
Take exactly twice as much money as you think will need, and you will still be short.

Twice when I've flown Lufthansa out of LAX they have weighed my carry-on bags. I was over 8 kg by a kilo or so and had to transfer some items to my checked bag. FYI, they have never weighed my "personal item", i.e., small backpack or purse. Leaving from Germany (both Munich and Frankfurt) they have never weighed my carry-ons.
