France may be merging some regions

Yes, I saw that on the French news last night. Well, I don't think our region, the Midi-Pyrénées, will complain too much about being joined with Languedoc-Roussillon—already for years there has been a hankering to re-unite the medieval County of Toulouse, which extended to the Rhône and the papal territories in Provence. Well, that is before Paris and the Pope snatched them in the Albigenisan Crusade. Around here they were saying François Mitterand had specifically ordered it divided separated into two regions in the early 1980s because he was afraid that the south might want its independence back. It's only been 800 years, after all!

There is an article about this in the Guardian. I will insert the map below showing the regions they will combine.
