Spent two weeks give or take..Paris, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Marseilles…highlight of trip. Interesting dynamic city
no problems with strikes ..

happy to give details …

Marseilles was the highlight of our trip. It’s a big energetic city that blends French, Italian and North African influences with great style. The Vieux Port is scenic and not just a tourist attraction. There’s a daily fish market , etc. We took the boat to Chateau d’If, the bus up the hill to Notre Dame de la Garde, gorgeous, visited the big open air market in the Noailles neighborhood, explored Le Panier and the other artsy area, Cours Julien ,plus the contemporary art complex , MuCem. Plenty of churches and terrific street art..

Note: if you prefer pristine pretty places, Marseilles is not for you. It’s a port city and like all port cities a bit battered on the edges. If you like Naples or Liverpool, you’ll enjoy the place.

Anything in particular?
In general, do take one of the many boat trips. We took the book that goes to the Count of Monte Cristo prison, Chateau d’ if. Be aware of boat arrivals and departures..it’s not an hourly service.
The Hop on Hop Off buses , all around the old port, are a good way to get a feel for the city and at least one line goes up to the basilica…a must.
Le Panier, Cours Julienne..both fun and funky neighborhoods. Palais Longchamps and the whole Longchamps area is pretty elegant. We loved Meme bistro for dinner and lunch.

Good source of info

We stayed right on the Old Port..stunning view, convenient, but noisy during the day. If I ever returned I would stay up from the port…close, but not noisy.

Enjoy
