ITA Airways is now part of Lufthansa

Quick story on ITA (don't think I posted this last year -- chalk it up to advancing memory loss if I did):

My deal with my kids and spouse/girlfriend (only one of each per son) is that they buy coach tickets and I upgrade to business. Makes me feel better that I'm not paying for everything ;-)

Older son and wife were coming to Italy last summer and found that ITA was less expensive for them than United (ORD to FCO). So, they bought the ITA coach ticket; I went on line to upgrade; found that ITA does not allow upgrades??!! No idea what business model says that it is not a good thing to allow customers to spend more money for a flight. I then put in bids for upgrades (which is an option) and got upgrades for both the to and from flights at a cost significantly less expensive than what my original attempt would have cost. Was a pain not knowing if bid would be accepted until just before departure day, but all went well in the end. Canceling the original coach ticket was not an option since non-refundable.
