I love reading everyone's itineraries, so I'll add mine.
May 13: Arrive and spend a day recovering from jet lag at Saturnia Golf and Spa to enjoy the springs and food
May 14 - 30: To Tempagnano di Valdottavo (near Lucca); clean the house; cut the brush off the side of the hill; start enjoying the wonderful company of relatives and friends -- a fantastic collection of ex-pats and locals in and around our village as well as the amazingly kind group of my wife's cousins who have fed and entertained us over the years (30 of her and me traveling there together so far); practice sitting on the patio drinking beer
Ooops, forgot May 19 - 22; Join friends from England that we met a year ago on a Galapagos cruise and show them around Lucca and Pisa; introduce them to sitting on the patio and drinking beer
May 31 - June 12: Meet American friends in Rome and then fly to Split, Croatia, for a two week cruise with Road Scholar (did the Canal du Midi with same friends last year -- through some hitch of questionable planning, that trip involved what we refer to as "work" getting through the locks -- we will not be repeating that mistake this year)
June 13 - 16: Back to Italy and continue traveling with above friends through a Parmesan cheese tour and a balsamic vinegar tour in and around Bologna/Modena/Parma. This part of trip still in planning stages.
June 17 - July 1: Say good-bye to friends and head back to the patio and beer (in all honesty, this is not exactly true -- my wife drinks wine).
July 2 - 6: Rapallo for the amazing fireworks of the Montallegro Festival; a coastal hike to Portofino; and a day at the U Giancu cooking school (with appreciation to forum member Tbk who recommended the school); entertain cousins from Genoa for dinner and the fireworks one of the nights
July 7 - 14: Need I say?? We do have a night at the Lucca Summer Festival to see Ringo Starr and the All Star Band to finish off the trip. Reluctantly fly home and start planning for 2019.
