The diary of a single parent abroad by Jill Pennington.
Self-published memoir (published recently), set around 2001 - 2009, about a British family who move from Yorkshire to a farm in southern Emilia-Romagna near the Tuscany border. After they purchase the farm, move from Yorkshire to a rented house nearby and start the renovation of the old farmhouse, the couple separate and the wife and children stay in Italy while the father keeps living in the UK and USA. The family get by on very little money, the parents divorce, the wife keeps everything going. She grows their food, raises animals (with an Italian boyfriend), sells at the market, works when she finds work.
This book is not about life in Italy. Reading it, I felt it could have taken place anywhere. It is about rural living on a shoe-string, with lots of angry divorce stuff. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading it. It needs editing and ended abruptly, but you really get a feel for her life.
Author website with photos for each chapter of the book.
