We rented this two-bedroom cottage in a quiet area on the High Street in lovely Tenterden in early May 2019. We rented through an online local agency, Kent and Sussex Cottages, but I later learned that it is possible to book directly from the owner. She also lists on VRBO. Here's the link to the cottage on the agency website. It was very easy to book through the agency website, and they have a number of interesting properties in the area.

This was a great cottage... very well equipped. On the ground floor there's a spacious living/dining room with a comfortable couch and a wood-burning stove (which we did use in early May). The kitchen is small (a galley kitchen) but has everything you need to prepare a simple meal. There's a full bathroom with a tub next to the kitchen. The large master bedroom is up one flight of stairs and has a large ensuite with a shower. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage for clothes. A second bedroom (for children or teenagers... not another couple or a friend) is up a steep flight of stairs and is under the eaves. We only took a peek.

There's a spacious front garden, beautifully landscaped, leading to a gate on the High Street. The cottage is set well back from the street, so we did not have any noise. There are actually two connected cottages, each with its own garden... we did not see or hear the next-door neighbors.

The kitchen opens to a small back garden with a private courtyard with seating. You can exit through the back and wind your way through a locked door that opens to a car park next to a Tesco. A parking pass is provided.

Tenterden is a great town. We enjoyed a variety of restaurants (Indian, Turkish, Italian) and brought back takeout pizza one night. There are lots of antique shops, food shops, bookshops... beautiful architecture. And it's a great location in Kent... just 15 minutes to Sissinghurst garden. We also loved Hole Park, a privately-owned garden/woodland. The bluebells and wild garden were spectacular at the time of our visit. We also made a day trip to Chartwell, about an hour's drive away. And we took a train from a nearby town to Canterbury. There was so much we didn't do... wineries (a bit skeptical about this), a railway to the coast, other National Trust houses and gardens, nearby villages.

The driving is a bit difficult... many roads are very narrow, with curves and hills. But you'd need to have a car to stay here.

Highly recommend! We'd love to return to the area and would stay in Tenterden and this cottage again in a heartbeat.

Kathy,
I love all the details in your review. I have never been to Kent and am salivating over your description of cottage and town.
