Old age being what it is, I can't remember where I posted a response saying FCO was still a mess based on our October experience -- can't find it on here, so might have been on a different Italy site. However, will post as an info item that we sailed through check-in (United) and security yesterday at FCO. It took us about as long to get from the entrance to T3 to the United desk and through security as it did to get from security to the lounge (via walking and train).
The objects of my earlier upset -- the need to go into the outside heat to detour around the building renovations and the return walk to the tangled webs of lines at the point where the check-in desk lines met the security lines -- are no more. The construction is gone and it is a direct indoor route from the entry to T3 to the United check-in desk. There is also a direct entry to a security area right beside the United desks. The lines through security went at walking speed.
Will also add that Dulles airport has expanded the facial recognition aspect of Global Entry to also expedite you through passport control. We did not stop at the passport desk once through GE -- they just called out our names as we approached and waved us through.
Was getting very hot on our last day in Italy (Lucca) -- hearing from friends that they are being overwhelmed by heat today. We were still sleeping with a blanket on the bed for most of our six weeks there. Glad to be home.
